Android launch preparation

OdO for Android is being prepared for Google Play.

The Android app is being built as the same product as OdO for iPhone: a private mileage log for business and personal driving, with useful Free logging and optional Plus automation.

Same OdO workflow

Review trips as Business, Personal, or Ignored. Keep CSV export available in Free and PDF reports in Plus.

Local-first by default

Trips, route points, saved places, reports, backups, and diagnostics stay on the Android phone unless the user exports or shares them.

Play Billing for Plus

Android Plus will use Google Play Billing for phone auto-tracking and PDF reports when public launch is ready.

Privacy and permissions

Built to avoid avoidable Android policy friction.

The first Android build keeps the permission story narrow: foreground location for mileage recording, a visible notification for Plus auto-tracking, and no Android background-location, Bluetooth, activity-recognition, account, cloud-sync, or OdO analytics requirement.

Foreground location

Used for trip capture

Visible notification

Used for Plus auto-tracking

Background location

Not requested in first Android build

Bluetooth / BLE

Not requested until beacon work reopens

Account or cloud sync

Not required for the core log

Exports

Shared only by user action

Launch path

What happens before public Android launch.

1

Device verification

Finish Google Play account setup on a real Android phone.

2

Private testing

Install from a test track and verify setup, reports, and local delete/export flows.

3

Plus testing

Create Google Play products and confirm purchase, restore, and safe downgrade behavior.

4

Real drives

Tune Android phone auto-tracking against real trips and battery behavior before wider rollout.

Is OdO on Google Play yet?

Not publicly yet. OdO for Android is in active Google Play launch preparation with the same local-first Free and Plus boundaries as the iPhone app.

Will Android require an account?

No account is planned for the core Android mileage log. Trips, saved places, route evidence, and reports are designed to stay on the phone unless the user exports or shares them.

Will Android use background location?

The first Android launch build avoids Android background-location permission. OdO Plus phone auto-tracking uses foreground location with a visible Android notification.

Will the beacon be included at Android launch?

No. Beacon automation remains a later hardware path after phone automation, Play policy handling, fulfillment, and support are stable.
